Abbeville Farewell: A Novel of Early Atlanta and North Georgia
Published in Paperback by Other Voices Press (30 November, 2001)
Author: Estelle Ford-Williamson
Average review score:

Great Book!
This is a great read, especially for history enthusiasts. It is a wonderful, insightful glimpse into the past. Abbeville, Farewell would be a great choice for high school students taking U.S. History. It has been painstakingly well researched and is entertaining.A good book for everybody!

Great read!
What a great read! I picked up this book one Friday night and stayed mesmerize all weekend. Abbeville Farewell is an easy recommendation.

As the child of the old south, Estelle Ford-Williamson transported me back to my roots. I felt she was writing about my family and their early 19th century journey from South Carolina and Georgia. There is mystery in the uprooting of the young Morgan family from their home in Abbeville, the adventure of the overland migration to Marthasville (present-day Atlanta), the human and personal struggle of building a new life for the family in this raw frontier city and, once settled and successful, the need to move again. Time and the times play their part in the story as children grow and personal perspectives change. And as you turned the pages of Estelle's great story, you find the growing social issue of slavery festering. In many ways the message of the book mirrors a struggle of any age - personal morality versus accepted community standards.

There is a villain in the story, but he is more a prop than a player. The real story is family and family relationship. The Morgans are good people and, if you end up judging one right and another wrong, you miss the essence of plot. I closed the book with a smile and promise. I will re-read this book. Re-reading books is something I seldom do and only on those rare occasions when they have had the ability to touch me deeply.

Estelle's writing style is open and honest. I feel she is talking to me. Her words flow easily off the pages of her book. Her character development is strong and her ability to build emotion and create rich drama is superb.

An Example of How To Bring History Alive
I finished your book this morning and just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I cannot imagine the amount of research you must have done to provide such in depth information about the geography, technology, organization of the society and the political attitudes of the times. The characters you developed in your novel reacted to and evaluated the events that were happening, and in the process made this period of history come to life. Thank you!

Cal 99 Norman Rockwell Calendar

Absolutely beautiful!
I was surprised and thrilled when I opened my box and found this lovely book. It's filled with Norman Rockwell's work, has enough writing space, and it seems sturdy enough to last a lifetime. I love it!

Absolutely Fabulous
I can't think of anything better than flipping through this address book to look up the location of a dear old friend. For years, Norman Rockwell delighted people with his pictures on the Saturday Evening Post, and this book is a perfect reminder of those times. The cover and picture inserts bring life to the pages. For a man that to some of us was a part of our family, what could be better than having his genius stroked throughout a book where we keep the names of those we hold dear. It's perfect.

A great Visual of one of the Greatest Designer EVER
I am 14 years of age, and thought this book was excellent. Any Versace fan would love this. The book is so bright with beautiful Miami inspired colors, very artistic illustrations, and wonderful pictures of his great creative designs. Though this is only up to his 1994 designs, it shows many of his best of all time. In this book, there are pages of his designs, theater designs, and more. This book is great. You never get bored when either reading the few pages to read, or when you are looking at the pictures and illustrations. It is a must have for the fashion lover, especially for the Gianni fan.

Delightfully wonderful example of Gianni Versace's work
This is my favorite book on Gianni Versace! It does an excellent job of showing excellent examples of the beautiful embellishments that make Versace what it is...SPECTACULAR. The art work is beautiful and the full color pictures are why this book is on my cofee table. It sums up Versace's work wonderfully!

American Wildflowers: Address Book

very nice address book
This is a very nice address book that is a nice size with good pictures and space for lots of information. The book is about 7-1/2 by 9 inches and the pages themselves are about an inch less wide. Tabs designate the letter separations, and each section is set off with one page that has color 5 by 7 pictures of a variety of wildflowers on both sides of the page. There are seven entries per page with lined spaces for the name, a four-line address, two lines for telephone numbers and one each for fax number, email address and birthday.

Beautiful painntings, excellent reproductions.
Two paintings by F. C. Frieseke, from the St. Louis Art Museum, are among the works chosen for this calendar: the well-known "Torn Lingerie," and "Woman Seated on Sofa in Interior," which I had not seen reproduced before. The reproductions are excellent.

Contemporary Japanese Sculpture (Abbeville Modern Art Movements)
Published in Hardcover by Abbeville Press, Inc. (July, 1991)
Author: Janet Koplos
Average review score:

Best book in its field.
This is by far the best book in its field. Koplos lived in Japan long enough to have grasped the distictive qualites of the culture that have influenced and continue to influence the arts. Particularly, she shows the influence of traditional architecure, art, etc.on the Japanese sense of space and feeling for natural materials. She also realizes how fluid the Japanese art scene is, how many Japanese artists go back and forth, working in modern sculpture, calligraphy, pottery and ikebana. This book is MUST reading for anyone interested in contemporary Japanese art

Elvis: His Life in Pictures
Published in Hardcover by Abbeville Press, Inc. (November, 1998)
Authors: Abbeville Press and Todd Morgan
Average review score:

Nearly essential for Elvis fans
This book has several very interesting photos through the years...most, I've never even seen anywhere else; very, very little repetition to other books. Rare photos in the blue '70 jumpsuit with oriental trim, a rare photo in the white '69 karate gi, excellent photo in his '72 Conquistador suit, one of the best pics in the Burning Love red suit, Elvis in his funky western style mod cowboy garb (arriving in Houston for shows at the Dome in '70) etc. etc. Also has by far the best detailed photos I've ever seen of the orange target, bear claw, and aloha suits on display. Very neat room to room Gracelend pics. What a find. I absolutely love this book, among the best values around, too. Long live the King.

Essence of Provence Postcard Book

A beautiful, little gem.
I love Provence! I have never been there, but it is definitely on my lists of places to see. * * * * * * * * Sonja Bullaty and Angelo Lomeo have captured Provence in their photography, and in this case, they are postcards. The photographers are award- winners, and in this lovely collection, the viewer can certainly see why. The title "essence" is aptly chosen, because each postcard represents a gorgeous detail of this wonderful region. * * * * * * * * The scenes depicted here are perfect portrayals of the area. There are generous selections of flowers and nature, including lavender, sunflowers, herbs, red poppies, olive trees, plane trees and more. There is a harvested hay field, with the large roll of gathered hay, waiting to be put in an old truck to go to their destination. There are large farmhouses and tiny, ancient cottages, and beautiful windows, framed by flowers and greenery, with lace at the window. A close-up of the curved, terracotta, roof tiles, with kittens relaxing in the grooves is lovely. There are views of Roman architecture to remind us how old history is in Europe. * * * * * * * * The owner of this postcard book may want to keep it as it is; frame each postcard; or, establish a small easel with a frame to rotate the prints. But I could never mail them. They are for me!
